The 16:9 bits don't look cropped to me. I'm a video/film editor for years and currently in film school and I've seen this many times before. The footage would be way grainier and their framing (considering how they frame the 4:3 bits) would have cut off heads and no legs in the shots. This is instead very decently framed 16:9 video leading me to believe it's new.
As for the taped glasses, perhaps they are a prop for the TG vids and his smaller glasses seen in other photos (MySpace, etc.) seem to be slightly smaller and a different style.
